WSCO's loss

Dragon Tales received the news that Barbara and David James will be leaving WSCO'S Board of Directors, due to David's new job. They have been very diligent workers for WSCO, with great ideas. Good luck, David, with your new job. You and Barbara will be sorely missed.

Nominations

The departure of Barbara and David will leave two vacancies on the Board of Directors that need to be filled. If you wish to nominate a candidate for the vacancies send the information to Bob Donaldson, WSCO President, e-mail Wirefoxes3@aol.com.

Life members Chip and Heather Cecil, son and daughter-in-law of Mary Ellen Morgan, have learned that the wee one they're expecting on December 19th is a little boy. Big sisters Gwen, Meredith, and Emily (grandma too) are very excited to have a little brother.

To Mary Ellen's knowledge, Arthur Franklin Cecil, Ill; and David Emory Morgan Ireland are the only 4th generation members of WSCO. Their great grandmother, Mary Williams Morgan; their grandfather, WSCO founder, David Edwin Morgan; and their mother, Mary Ellen Morgan either are, or have been members. If there are any other 4th or 5th generation members out there, please let us know at jcspeakman@yahoo.com

Laura Elizabeth Witt, granddaughter of Lloyd and Jean Savage, and Mark Harvey were married July 24, 2004 in a lovely outdoor ceremony at Heritage Park in Westerville, Ohio. The bride is a second year medical student at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia. and the groom is a PhD candidate in chemistry at Virginia Tech also.

What a bright future these young people have before them. They also have a good example to follow in a happy life.  Lloyd and Jean celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary on August 29, 2004. Congratulations to Laura and Mark and Jean and Lloyd.

Marietta Riggs Schumann and Paul Schumann. have two grandsons starting college this fall. David Schumann will be attending Clemson University in Clemson, South Carolina.

Kyle Wright will be attending Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Marietta's grandson, Brendon Kesler will be a junior at Sampson University in Birmingham, Alabama. Good luck to these fine young men in their quest for the future.

Carolyn Abels, past president and WSCO board member, recently retired as Director of International Education at Capital University in Bexley, Ohio. Carolyn is teaching a class this fall (part time) on international incentives for the School of Management at Capital University. She will also be doing special assignments for the University, such as taking a group of students to Germany next May. Good luck, Carolyn. When you get back from Germany, we want to hear all about it.

WSCO members seen at the North American Festival of Wales in Buffalo, N.Y. (National Gymanfa Ganu): Margaret and Lew Lloyd, Dr Megan Lloyd, her husband, Dr. Bill Irwin and little Daniel, the youngest to attend. Eight month old Daniel sang along with the music (well, little blurps), but he was right in tune. Also, I saw Charlotte and Stanton Prior, jean and Lloyd Savage and Lloyd's sister, her first National, and she said she really enjoyed it. It was good to see Joe Sooby and his friend, Virginia. I was very happy to see Anita and Keith Braithwaite. Anita and Keith are now living in Canada, however are still faithful members of WSCO. They were very complimentary of Dragon Tales and enjoy reading it. That made my day. On the way home from Buffalo my husband, Joe, and I stopped at a road side rest area and saw Shirley McKee and Marti Hurlburt from Dayton. Talking with them, it looks like we are all looking forward to Orlando, Florida for the National next year.

Cadet Joseph Speakman has been selected to play in the Air Force Academy Drum and Bugle Corps, which provides entertainment at football games and in select venues in the United States. His proud parents, Joe and Sue, sister, Anne, and friend, Laura, recently visited the Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, for parents weekend. They were able to see the band perform, attend classes and to visit with Joe for the first time since he left for basic training in late June.

Submitted by Shirley McKee: When I attend events where many people are of Welsh descent, it is a treat for me to meet others who share my interest in the Welsh language and literature. Although I can trace my line to an imigrant from Wales, for all practical purposes I am "Welsh by adoption." I was thus charmed in Buffalo when I learned that the wife of Meirwyn loan Walters, the gymanfa director, is 100% Lebanese-American. Before they were married, she learned the Welsh lyrics to "Rachie" and went to a cymanfa with Walters and his parents fully prepared. How could Walters not fall in love with her after that? Their young son was brought on stage, and although he is not yet a boy soprano, he was promised a place one day in the bass section -"As long as you don't get FAT," he was told by a friend of his grandfather's.
