On Wednesday, March 1st, we'll be raising the Welsh flag over downtown Columbus! Join us at noon at the West Plaza (High Street side) of the Ohio State House for a proclamation from the Governor's office, Welsh folk dancing, and the raising of our flag. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be in the North Hall off the Rotunda before we proceed outside for the flag-raising. (allow plenty of time for parkingspaces may be hard to find if the lawmakers are in session that day)
When on a recent trip to Alaska, Johanna Jones Keiser, visited the Anchorage Museum of History and Art. Johanna noticed a picture/text display of early pioneers of Anchorage. Featured was Evan Jones, born in 1880 in Wales. He came to Alaska as Superintendent of the Moose Creek Coal Mines. He married Bronwyn Morgan of Iowa. He later founded his own coal mine in 1921 and named the settlement Jonesville. How about that? Welshmen have certainly contributed much in the settlement of North and South America. United States, Canada, Patagonia.
