One of the longest sections of Roman road ever found in Wales is being unearthed at the site of a new Tesco.  The highway was carved out 2,000 years ago and is thought to have linked two forts.

It's not every day that royalty invites you to stay, but you can do so in Prince Charles's holiday cottage in Wales.  The little farmhouse, Llwynywermod in Carmarthenshire, was purchased in November 2006 and has been rebuilt and refurbished.

Wales achieved their greatest rugby triumph on the global stage by winning the World Cup Sevens in front of a 50,000 crowd in Dubai last night.  Wales showed determination, committed defence, and inventive try scoring to overcome the hot favorites and bring more rugby pride to the nation.

Botanists at National Museum Cardiff along with scientists from three universities and the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, have named new kinds of trees in Wales, England and Ireland, all of which are rare and need to be protected.  Six new species of trees have been discovered in Wales.

Joe Calzaghe, aka The Pride of Wales, undefeated world light heavyweight boxing champion, has announced his retirement.  Calzaghe held the WBO super middleweight title for over 10 years before he decided to concentrate on fighting at light heavyweight.

One of Wales' most well-known and favorite authors of Welsh-language children's books died on Jan. 9th at the age of 93.  T. Llew Jones, a skillful story-teller, wrote about local legends, characters and places and many of his books were based in his native Ceredigion.  He and his son collaborated on the writing of what is thought to be the only Welsh-language book explaining the intricacies of the game of chess.

A new book, with stunning photographs, looks a the gardens of Wales, from the grand to the quirky, and covers an exciting range of gardens both large and small, public and private, historic and contemporary, all over the country.  The Gardens of Wales was written by Helena Attlee with photographs by Alex Ramsay, her husband.  Ms Attlee found that the drive to the gardens was almost as pleasurable as seeing the gardens themselves and said, "Going on a garden tour is a great way of exploring Wales."

Patrick McGoohan, creator and star of cult classic The Prisoner, died  on Jan. 14th after a short illness.  The people of Portmeirion and the surrounding area paid tribute to McGoohan on the eve of his death.  The Sir Clough Williams-Ellis' Italianate resort where the surreal 1960s show was filmed benefited from the boost in visitor numbers after the show was screened.
