Letter from WSCO's president

TITANIC’s Passengers - Celebrate the Nationalities.

The Welsh Society of Central Ohio has been invited to participate in a special “Celebrate the Nationalities Day” to honor one of the many nationalities that were on board the Titanic when it sank in 1912 and in cooperation with the Titanic exhibit now being shown at COSI Columbus until September 6, 2010.

The event is being organized by the Columbus Global Cooperative a new organization that WSCO recently discovered.  Other community organizations involved include: COSI, other central Ohio ethnic organizations, the Columbus Historical Society, and the Columbus Metropolitan Library.

The Celebrate Nationalities Event is taking place on Saturday, August 21 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. in the atrium at COSI Columbus.  WSCO will be setting up our table top display, have activities for the children, and the Columbus Welsh Singing Society has been invited to participate by singing a few songs.

Those of you who receive the NWAF newsletter, there was a recent article about a Titanic Welsh crew member who was a hero -- you wondered if there were any Welsh on The Titanic, well YES and a HERO.

Here are some other links to read about this amazing person (compliments of research completed by WSCO’s Corresponding Secretary Donna Boyce):

If you haven’t had the opportunity to visit the Titanic exhibit at COSI, I invite all of you to come the afternoon of August 21 to see the exhibit and participate in this great family experience!

I hope to see you there!

Sincerely,

            Beth Ransopher
