Please join us following the gymanfa, for a te bach, or little tea, chaired by Donna Boyce and her committee, so there will be a good chance to catch up with old friends, make some new ones, and have some delicious treats in the process.
Don't forget to bring your friends and neighbors to this vestige of Welsh community life and share your heritage with them.
Please let us know of any members who have died since the last gymanfa in October, 2008, so that they may be remembered during the service.
If you would like to make suggestions for future cymanfoedd, please contact Mary Ellen Morgan, Gymanfa chair, at MEMorgan2(at)aol(dot)com or (614) 488-0007.

On July 18, over 4 dozen WSCO members, family and friends gathered at the Dogwood shelter house at Blendon Woods Metro Park for a potluck dinner, Welsh singing and great camaraderie. We enjoyed the opportunity to meet and chat with old friends and new WSCO members and non-members alike. Elizabeth Jeffries, a former Columbus resident who is now a board member of the St. David’s Society of Pittsburgh, was in attendance along with two of her best friends – Larry Cunningham and Dillon the Welsh Dragon. Elizabeth shared with me that Dillon’s preferred diet is grilled cheese sandwiches and pickles which is also one of my favorites. |
Dillon is red with purple “under parts”-- I am sorry I had to crop off his magnificent tail and one wing or, to get the picture on the page, it would have been too small to see him well.
Both Elizabeth and Larry sent email messages afterwards:
E -- Please extend thanks to your members for the gracious welcome extended to me and my friend Larry. It was nice to meet another group and share news. And what yummy food!!
L -- I had the pleasure of attending the WSCO Annual Family Picnic this past Saturday with my partner Elizabeth Jeffries from Pittsburgh, and had a wonderful time. Thank you for allowing me to join the festivities in spite of my non-Welsh background! :-)
Dillon did not send us a message.
Lloyd Savage said dinner grace for us and the food fell victim to those good Welsh appetites. Post-dinner singing was accompanied by Lloyd on his accordion and Bob Penry on his guitar with Ann Gillard guiding us all through Mochan Du.

The folk dancing was rained out but we were cozy under the shelter roof for the singing and had a laughing-good time with Evan Jones doing an excellent job as our as auctioneer -- over $150 was raised for WSCO’s general fund. Diolch yn fawr to all who placed bids and to those who donated items, with a very, very special thanks to Laura Jenkins Gorum who donated one of her hand-carved love spoons to the auction – the lucky bidder was WSCO member Tamara Evans.
The auction was followed by a duet from Ann and Bob and we closed the day with more group singing.
Roger Roberts brought his ever-growing collection of flags for display – many agree that they make the perfect “welcome” for our picnic.
Chairperson Charlotte Prior’s efforts gave us another fun, enjoyable Welsh picnic. Charlotte followed through with your suggestions to have a potluck lunch rather than a dinner, and your WSCO board is already moving towards that goal for 2010. Mark your calendars for July 17th!!
