Wales Comes to Gahanna

The language of Heaven floated over downtown Gahanna as the exchange students from Trinity College, Carmarthen, Wales, sang for a gathering of WSCO members and friends on Sunday, April 29th, late afternoon.

The patio gathering at Buck Mulligan’s Irish Pub was blessed with perfect weather and attracted the attention of pub-goers and Creekside Plaza strollers.  Frowns were noticed as strollers recognized the familiar tunes of the hymns but were confused by the words, and many folks stopped at nearby benches to listen.  WSCO members chatted over the patio fences with passers-by, explaining the gathering and that the young singers were not a professional group.  One man was seen to be singing along with “Hymns and Arias”.  The weekend pub manager opened the connecting window to the bar area so the singing could be heard inside.

The students answered questions, talked a bit about themselves, and chatted with attendees after the program which included: Migldi Magldi, Cwm Rhondda, Calon Lan, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Gwyn Fy Myd (You Raise Me Up), Cysga Di Fy Mhlentyn Tlws (Sleep Away My Gently Child), Brenin Byd, Sospan Fach, a couple songs from their production of “Lonesome Valley” – Seasons of Love and The Red Rosy Bush -- Gwahoddiad, Hymns and Arias, Delilah, and Sanctaidd.

Dianne Williams, the event chair, must have “connections” to arrange the wonderful weather we had – the food was great, the venue was perfect.  Thanks, also, to Homer Williams for bringing his Welsh flag.  Seeing it hanging on the patio fence answered my question of why, when I walked into the pub wearing my red dragon vest, the staff took one glance and pointed at the patio door and said, “Out there.”

Note:  We try to plan ahead for WSCO events so members have plenty of notice but occasionally the opportunity comes up quickly for something special – if you did not receive the email notice of this event then we don’t have your email address.  Please see “Does WSCO Have Your Email Address?” on page 12.

Opt IN

“Opt out” – you hear it from your insurance company, you hear it from your bank, and you hear it from other companies you do business with.  WSCO is taking the positive approach – we’re asking if you want to Opt IN.

WSCO members are promised a copy of the annual Member Roster but some of you never use it, or need it only on the rare occasion and then can’t find it, and some may not care if you receive one or not.  All of you know you can contact the corresponding secretary by phone or email to get that occasionally-needed bit of information about another WSCO member.

We’re giving you the chance to Opt INif you want to receive a copy of the annual Member Roster, let us know.

We can also meet the needs of a number of members by sending the Roster via a .pdf email attachment -- not everyone on our emailing list can open attachments and some access their messages at the public library where there may be a charge for printing, so WSCO does not want to just automatically go that route.

Do you want to receive a copy of the WSCO annual Member Roster?  If so, then please Opt IN and let us know your preferred delivery mode:

 Via .pdf email attachment – send an email message to info(at)welshsocietyofcentralohio(dot)org (be sure to note if you wish to not have your email address published in the Roster)

 Print copy, as in the past – send an email message or leave a phone message at (614) 470-4999.  (Print copies will be available at our St. David’s Day celebration and copies not picked up will be sent out by regular mail)

You can get on or off either of the distribution lists at any time by calling WSCO’s Information Line (614) 470-4999 or emailing info(at)welshsocietyofcentralohio(dot)org.

Remember -- Opt IN to receive the Member Roster
