We were sorry to learn of the death of Life member, Lewis Parry Lloyd on December 27, 2008. Lew, 92, was a resident of Plains, PA, for the past 3 years but was a long-time active member of WSCO when he and his family lived in central Ohio.
He was born in Oak Hill, OH, graduated from Oak Hill High School, and attended Ohio State University. He served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII in Italy and Africa.
Prior to his retirement he was employed as an auditor for the City of Columbus, OH. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Grove City, OH, and was a life member of the Welsh National Gymanfa Ganu Association.
Surviving are his wife, the former Margaret (Williams), married 46 years; daughter Megan S. Lloyd and her husband William T. Irwin; son John D. Lloyd; 2 grandchildren, Daniel and Kate Irwin.
Interment was at Oak Hill Cemetery, Oak Hill, OH.
On January 19, 2009, WSCO lost another dear friend, Floe Elizabeth Faurot Jones. Floe was a founding member of the Columbus Welsh Singing Society, which later became the Welsh Society of Central Ohio. She served as secretary for that early group, and was named by WSCO as the first of only four persons to be recognized as Welshman of the Year.
Floe, 98, lived for many years in Upper Arlington, OH, and more recently at The Forum in Columbus. She was born in Jonestown, Van Wert County, OH, and was married to Evan Gomer Jones in 1938.
She was, for many years, a food broker for R. A. Hoge Company, was a lifelong active member of Zonta International, and was a member of Broad Street Presbyterian Church in Columbus, OH.
She is survived by three nephews, two nieces, several great nieces and great-nephews and their families, and many friends.
Morning services were held at Schoedinger’s in Upper Arlington, with an afternoon graveside service and interment at Venedocia Cemetery, Venedocia, OH.
WSCO is glad to be able to send out a big Croeso! (Welcome) to new member Jackie Davis and we hope many of you get to meet her at future events.
Chris Watkins (Welsh love spoon carver and 2008 St. David’s Day seminar presenter) and his wife, Deb, welcomed their daughter Eleri on Sept. 17, 2008. The blue-eyed, strawberry blond arrived weighing 8 lb 7 oz.
Chris said that the first day Deb returned to work, he and Eleri had a near-perfect Monday morning but the situation deteriorated as the day wore on. Things are much improved since then and siblings Aneira and Bryn are a great help.

Board member, Stanton Prior celebrated his 80th birthday on October 26th. His wife, Charlotte, held a Nov. 2nd reception at their church and family, friends, and WSCO members gathered to wish Stanton many more happy years. Llongyfarchiadau (congratulations) Stanton!
WSCO genealogy class teacher, Ellen Berry, whom some of you met at a St. David’s Day dinner several years ago, fell in her home the last Friday in September and broke her shoulder and had to cancel a class, to the disappointment of her students. Ellen left Wesley Glen in mid-December and was home for Christmas, but was back in Riverside with pneumonia on January 2nd. She was released from the hospital on January 16th and is recuperating and regaining her strength at Westminster-Thurber. Her budding genealogists have scheduled a meeting for March 7th with great hopes that Ellen will be healthy enough to join them.
Former WSCO president, Gene Beard, was in Mt. Carmel West Hospital on Nov. 5th for an out-patient surgical procedure to correct a deviated septum. He spent one night in the hospital for observation and care and had to visit his surgeon weekly for the next 4-5 weeks.
Pam Jones, wife of board member Evan Jones, and a “regular” on the WSCO annual bus trips, was diagnosed in December with inflammatory breast cancer and started chemo on Jan. 2nd – please keep Pam and Evan in your prayers.
On a Saturday in the middle of January, board member Bob Donaldson was seen at Riverside Hospital ER and immediately admitted for surgery for what appeared to be a massive infection in his left hand. The surgery took place within two hours of his arrival and Bob is now home, but test results were still pending at the time this newsletter went to the printer.
