Columbus Welsh Singing Society

Ann Gillard

The CWSS celebrated our second anniversary in January. During the past two years we have accomplished quite a lot. Our membership has grown to 25 and we have had the opportunity to bring our Welsh music and information about the Welsh culture to many people. Two years ago most of us knew only a few words in Welsh and now we can sing over 30 songs in the Welsh language. However, the most important part of our journey has been the bond of friendship that has developed during this time. We have shared much joy and laughter, but also some deep sorrow. The loss of our dear Natalie Post was very difficult for us, and we treasure the time that she was with us.

We had a number of very successful performances last year, including hour-long concerts at the Radnor Congregational Church, St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, Westminster Thurber, Oakleaf Village, and Wesley Glen, as well as WSCO’s own St. David's Day celebrations and the July picnic.

We always welcome new friends into our group. We learn our Welsh words phonetically, one word at a time, with the use of CDs, tapes, and a lot of help from Shirley McKee.  If you are interested in giving our chorus a try, email j-gillard[at]sbcglobal[dot]net and I will give you all the information, or call WSCO at (614) 470-4999.

It has been my privilege to direct the CWSS for the past two years. Every person in the group has been supportive, cooperative and helpful to me in many ways, and I feel blessed to have them as my friends.

Rehearsals: Worthington Methodist Church, 600 N. High St., Worthington, Ohio; 3rd floor, 7 - 8:30 pm.
