The Columbus Welsh Singing Society gladly welcomes new member “Rusty” Jones, a Radnor, Ohio, native and long-time Columbus resident.
WSCO gets to say Croeso! (welcome) to a baker’s dozen: Diane Burnley, Mindy & Robert Campbell, Rebecca Jo Crownover (Peggy and Joe Speakman’s daughter), Lee Evans, Earl W. Griffith, Louis & Jeanne Jones Jindra (Jeanne is the Assistant Director at the Madog Center for Welsh Studies at Rio Grande), Wilda & W.J. Lewis, MD, William Morris, and Jo Ann & John Tabor.

Cheryl Evans and husband, Stacy (WSCO board member), became grandparents for the first time with the arrival of Allen Robert Evans, born March 6 in Japan (because of the international date line). Parents are Robert Allen Evans and Gina Murray Evans.
Damien Grubb, grandson of board member, Ronda Griffith-Grubb and her husband, Chuck Grubb, was born at Ft. Campbell on February 10, 2007. (Ft. Campbell's mailing address is KY, but the base actually is partially in KY and TN. The base hospital is in TN, so Damien was born in TN). Fortunately his father, Jason Grubb (who used to help Ronda collating and addressing in her days as Dragon Tales editor), had returned a few months earlier from his second tour of duty in Iraq. Jason was honorably discharged at the end of March and moved with his wife, Charity, and their new son to Jason's hometown of Kendallville, Indiana, to resume his life as a civilian with 3 years of inactive reserve duty.
WSCO members Dianne and Homer Williams announce the engagement of their son, Evan Thomas Williams to Dana Moore, daughter of the Reverend Bob and Anita Moore. The wedding is scheduled for October 13, 2007, at Christ Lutheran Church in Bexley. Evan and Dana were at the WSCO picnic last summer.
Ann and Jim Gillard’s granddaughter, Sarah Heasley, graduated from The Culinary School at Columbus State Community College on March 16th. Her first job – catering pastries the very next day for the te bach following performances at the Gillie Senior Recreation Center Celtic Festival. Two groups sang at the festival – the Gillie G-Clef Chorus and WSCO’s own Columbus Welsh Singing Society – both directed by Ann! On July 1st Sarah will leave Brookside Country Club, where she has apprenticed for three years, and will go to work for the Pistachio Pastry Shop. In January, 2008, she will take a leave of absence to attend the French Pastry School in Chicago. Ann reports that Sarah has promised to provide a tray of pastries for WSCO’s te bach in October.
Judy Burgess had surgery very early this year and we hope that she’s fully recovered by now.
The first Friday in February, Mary Ellen Morgan’s car was rear-ended by a truck going 65 to 70 mph. She’s still dealing with some pain and headaches – WSCO hopes these clear up soon.
Shirley McKee hadn’t planned on spending St. David’s Day with her arm in a cast, but on Feb. 8th her situation changed – reports were that it was a rather nasty spiral break. Shirley’s resumed most of her regular activities but found that her small motor skills were a little slower in coming back which hindered her being able to handle a quilting needle.
Jan Shelby, wife of board member Dave Shelby, has been in and out of the hospital this spring – please keep her in your prayers.
In late March, Helen Davis had surgery to remove a mass from her lung, and she was back in the hospital on April 5th for lung cancer surgery. Helen is recovering well and is out-and-about but sometimes finds that her energy level doesn’t last quite as long as some of her activities.
Board member Stacy Evans and his wife, Cheryl, are moving to Granville, Ohio, and July 1st is the official start of their retirement. Stacy quips that they will now have lived in zip codes 43021, 43022, and 43023. WSCO members will find their new address in the 2007 membership roster that was sent out with the hard copy of this issue of Dragon Tales.
Board member Marilynn Miller pulled up roots from the west side of Columbus and headed north to the Hilliard area. WSCO members will find her new address in the 2007 membership roster that was sent out with the hard copy of this issue of Dragon Tales.
WSCO Recording Secretary, Charlotte Prior, and her husband, Stanton, also a WSCO Board member, drove to Massachusetts in April to visit their daughter, Amy Littler, who lives in Marble Head in the Boston/Salem area. The Priors also visited friends and other relatives living in the area.
