Let me start out by thanking the membership of the Central Ohio Welsh Society for selecting me to be your president for the next year. It is a distinct and humbling honor. I am fortunate to have the help of our immediate past president to guide me in this position.
This is my first letter in Dragon Tales and there is much to say. We had a very successful St. David's Day celebration at the Clintonville Woman's Club in February followed by the flag-raising at the Statehouse on March 1. We look forward to our next function, our annual picnic at Blendon Woods in July. Our singing society and dance group have been very active.
I am fortunate in having a board which is full of talent and energy to help enhance the goals of our society. We can always use more volunteers and I encourage participation by the membership in furthering this endeavor. Please contact me by phone, (614) 475 3831or by email, cwrwmaker70[at]yahoo[dot]com.
Our society is actively engaged in looking for a webmaster to manage our web site. Temporarily, Tegwyn Lantz has stepped in to assure that WSCO has a continuing web presence. Those interested should contact her hiraeth[at]columbus.rr[dot]com or Bruce Davis creativefire[at]columbus.rr[dot]com or the chairman of the web guidelines committee, Stacy Evans ssaevans17[at]aol[dot]com.
It is with regret that the Board of the Welsh Society of Central Ohio has decided to postpone its tour of Wales until 2008.
This decision came as a result of concerns about liability issues mandating that we form a separate corporation for our travel activities.
The 2008 tour will feature the same fun itinerary, but the trip might be shortened due to the poor dollar/pound exchange.
Watch future issues for further information.
In an effort to eliminate confusion regarding WSCO’s membership “year” for those who pay annual dues, the Board has decided to switch to a calendar year from the long-standing March 1st through the end of February timeframe.
This will also mean that your membership rosters can be distributed earlier.
Starting in 2008, if your dues are paid by February 15th, you will be included in the membership roster which will be distributed at our St. David’s Day dinner. Those not attending the dinner will receive their rosters by email attachment or, if we don’t have your email address, by regular mail. Providing WSCO with an email address will save your organization money on postage fees.
“Pro-rated” dues will no longer exist – there will be no carry-over for those paying late in the year. All annual dues will expire at the end of the calendar year.
