Anwyliaid Cyfeillion (Dear Friends),
As my second term as president draws to an end, I want to thank you for your continued support of the Welsh Society of Central Ohio; the Welsh Country Dancers; the Columbus Welsh Singing Society; our Welsh language classes; our tours of southern Ohio Welsh sites; our Welsh picnic; our annual gymanfa ganu; our annual St. David’s Day banquet and seminars; and of me. You have all been wonderful.
Volunteer groups wither or thrive with the vagaries of external forces on their members, and in spite of the demands in your lives, you’ve been active and generous with your resources and time. Bless you for keeping our groups so active and alive. This most recent gymanfa ganu was the best I have heard anywhere in the past thirty or forty years; your singing was magnificent, and you sang as your parents and grandparents did when we were all children. They would be so proud of you, as am I.
My last official duty will be to chair the Annual Meeting on February 24th, just before the St. David’s Day dinner, and to MC the program that evening. After that, I’ll be working on our tour of Wales planned for this coming September, and I hope to hear from each of you about what we can do to further involve you in this outstanding organization.
I would ask one more thing of each of you: please get your children and grandchildren more involved with our activities; they are our future. Let’s give them the gift of their heritage as our parents gave it to us. It is for that reason that the organization is absorbing most of the cost of children’s meals for St. David’s Day, just so you’ll be able to bring your whole clan.
Diolch calon am eich cefnogaeth. (Thanks a million for your help.)
Mary Ellen
Your Board of Directors is recommending a number of changes to the WSCO bylaws. These will be discussed and voted upon during the Annual Meeting on Saturday, February 24, 2007. The membership will also be voting on Board members and Officers.
We look forward to seeing you at the meeting.
LOST & FOUND -- a pair of sunglasses was left in the sanctuary after the Oct. 1st gymanfa. Contact: (614) 470-4999 or centralohiowelsh[at]aol[dot]com to claim.
The Welsh Society of Central Ohio is in dire need of someone to handle our PR needs, which include writing and submitting stories three times a year to the local papers to cover our events; notices to Ninnau of our events for their back page; and several articles a year for Ninnau about our events. Please call Mary Ellen Morgan at (614) 470-4999 if you are interested.
At the November 14, 2006 Board meeting, the Board members voted to change the lock on the WSCO storage locker and to institute the policy of keeping all keys amongst “current” Board members.
Keys are to be turned in upon resignation or end of term, and non-board members who help with special events can be given a key that is to be returned after the event.
