Join
with WSCO to Celebrate St. David’s Day!
Banquet, Seminars and Annual Meeting
Our St. David's Day
banquet and celebration will take place on February 24, 2007 at the
Clintonville Woman's Club, 3951 North High Street, Columbus, Ohio. This is
the same location as last year since the Board received many positive
responses from the membership.
The Clintonville
Woman’s Club is near the Park of Roses, just north of the Whetstone Library
and Whetstone Recreation Center. Parking is in the rear.
After several years
of outstanding outside entertainment, there was a consensus expressed that
more singing by our own membership was desired. In this regard we will have
an extended period where our own voices will be our entertainment. Bring
your hymnals!
There will be a
showing from 2 to 3pm of the exquisite new version of “A Child’s Christmas
in Wales,” a faithful accounting of Dylan Thomas’ lyric tale of
picture book memories of his youth, which seems very familiar to us today.
The film, featuring Denholm Elliott as the grandfather, is wonderful
to watch all year through, and is a favorite with both adults and children.
A donation of $4 per adult (children under 18 free) will get you in
to see this perfect gem of a film. The views of Wales will take your breath
away, especially on the huge screen. Popcorn provided!
From 3:15 to 4:45pm
a beer and Welsh cheese tasting will be offered. This will be for adults
only and the fee is $6.00. The cwrw (beer) will be that of our own in-house
bragur (brewer), Homer Williams.
At 5:00pm the
annual meeting of the membership will be held. This year’s meeting will
include not only the election of new board members and officers but also a
discussion and vote of proposed changes to the WSCO bylaws.
As last year, there
will be no open bar before dinner.
Attendees
are welcome to bring their own alcoholic beverages, and Happy Hour will
start at 5:30.
The dinner buffet
will start at 6pm. The menu will be leek soup, roast beef, chicken
Rothschild, salad, sides, desserts, and coffee and tea. Dinner fee: adults
- $26.00, children under 18 - $5.00.
There will be a
comfort break at 7:15, and group singing will begin at 7:30pm.
We are looking
forward to a great turnout. We were pleased with last year's attendance and
hope to do as well, if not better, this year.
Reservations for
the seminars and dinner must be received by February 16, 2007 and should be
sent to: WSCO, PO Box 12023, Columbus, Ohio, 43212, (614) 470-4999.
Contact: Homer Williams (614) 475-3831.
March 1st at the Ohio State House
Mark Thursday March
1st on your calendar for this Welsh celebration in downtown
Columbus at 12:00 noon. WSCO’s own Columbus Welsh Singing Society is
scheduled to sing and there will be a Welsh flag-raising. State
Representative Clyde Evans is planning to be in contact with the new
legislature in mid-January to invite those with Welsh heritage to be
present.
If it's cold, we'll
meet just inside the west doors and go out just before noon to the West
Plaza on North High Street. Please contact family, friends, neighbors,
congress people, and work colleagues (especially those downtown) and invite
them to come.
March 1st
is also Ohio Statehood Day. There will be other activities taking place at
the State House, so plan accordingly when you’re allotting driving time for
looking for a parking place in the area.
